OCDR – ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN DISABILITY RESOURCES
Judy Endow is an autistic professional, an author, a mother, a consultant for families, a resource specialist and clinician. She gives workshops and presentations on a variety of autism-related issues. She is an “insider professional,” being autistic herself. The following article, “My Visual Waves of Autistic Thinking,” (Home) is from her blog Judy Endow: Aspects of Autism Translated.
Her explanation of these visual waves is like a poem, with “images” from a dimension that neurotypical people do not experience . . .
. . . one of which is “color sounds.” A neurotypical person knows color, and sound, but a combination of the two is a mystery for us.
Nevertheless, the images provides a way of understanding their mode of thinking, though it is impenetrable to us. But it does provide an opportunity to “try on their shoes,” (though we will not be able to walk in them!), and will provide a measure of understanding what life is like for the autistic friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family members in our lives.
Judy Endow’s blog pages contain a wealth of information on the many facets of autistic life in the form of books, articles, posts, videos, as well as art (cards and prints) for sale.
