The doctor explained to his wife, “he has little quality of life.” But even though he could not move, he could nonverbally communicate with his wife and family. For himself and for them, he did have a life worth living. But the doctor had the legal authority to overrule those who knew him best and loved him.

And so they not only refused him treatment, but also food and fluids, and after six days he died.

While  it is true that a person near death does not choose to take fluids -which would make them even sicker – Michael Hickson was not dying when the hospital began to withhold fluids, food, and treatment. This is inhumane!
