a discussion on the canons in regard to a disability as an impediment for priests

Origen

The discussion hinges on the specific reason these canons came into being: self-mutilation. It is an open discussion for members, by the way. Its easy to become a member.

It’s too strong to say “the” specific reason for the canons on disability as an impediment. It’s one reason, but the issue of practicality is another for example: see Canon 78 of Trullo: “But if a man be deaf or blind, he may not be made a bishop, not indeed as if he were thus defiled, but that the affairs of the Church may not be hindered.”
